sword shield

The English medieval sword is a beastly weapon of war. It has been shown to penetrate chain mail and wreak a lot of havoc against the enemy. The sides of the sword are dull, as the user would thrust and parry into instead of hacking the enemy’s defenses.
By contrast the samurai swords used by Japanese warriors have razor sharp edges, because they slice and dice. The only way to deflect a sword attack is to use a sword shield. If the shield’s metal is thick enough, and if his luck pulls through, the defender may live to fight another day.
