polish pottery mug

November 9th, 2009

Poland is recognized as the source of some of the best potteries in Europe. The city of Boleslawiec in Poland was made famous by the durable and functional creamy white and blue stoneware that it produces. They are unique and easily identifiable. Each piece is a collectible whether it is a polish pottery mug, teapot, plate or baking dish. They easily turned into cherished heirlooms that were handed down generations of pottery lovers.

How lucky that these cherished pieces are also available in special stores in the US. How nice that they have items that can be great adornments in our homes come the Holiday Season. Take a ceramic jolly Snowman or Christmas tree of white clay decorated with lead-free glazes. They can be part of a collection of figurines that will adorn a festive Christmas table. Smaller pieces such as a star or crescent moon may hang from the Christmas tree.

cast iron deep fry pans

November 9th, 2009

I love to cook. When I was young, I help my mom cook. As a teen, I would cater for family and friends. The proceeds of the catering jobs I bought cast iron cookware. My favorite pieces are the cast iron deep fry pans.

Cast iron deep fry pans are great cookware. They are heavy and sturdy but that’s how I like my cookware. I don’t want to cook and accidentally spill food on myself or the floor. Imagine spilling hot food or worse hot oil on you. Not only will it be painful but it’s very dangerous.

George Foreman grills

May 6th, 2009

Breakfast may be a rush-rush thing with the children being prepared to go to school and the hubby not helping much because he has to rush to work himself. Breakfast has to be fixed, lunchboxes prepared and all in so short a time. When all is settled it is the time for mom to take in a leisurely cup of coffee and reflect about the other chores for the day. Surely, a lot needs to be done. But this time the situation is more relaxed.

It is surprising how a lot can be done when you sit back for a moment and plan the sequence of the day’s chores. So, the busy mom will probably start with the wash and do a bit of cleaning up while waiting for the alarm to sound. She has time to answer a few calls from friends. When she realizes that it is time for lunch, she pulls out one of her George Foreman grills and prepares a sandwich. With leftover salad from last night’s dinner, she has a tasty and healthy lunch.

vinyl bar stools

December 2nd, 2008

I am a frustrated bartender. I have always wanted to put up my own bar business but I never got around to it. So I now do most of my drink mixing at home.

I even set up some drinks of my own invention. I mix some grenadine syrup with vodka and some cherry syrup and lots of crushed ice to come up with my own cooler with a kick. My margaritas are cool too, especially since I freeze them on Popsicle sticks - perfect during hot summer days. Then my friends simply drop by and enjoy my concoctions while sitting on my vinyl bar stools.

November 18th, 2008

Cook spaghetti and other Italian foods anytime you want to. Families who love these meals should never be without a pasta maker that instantly churns out strings of freshly made pasta that makes dishes more delicious.

Teach your daughter how to make homemade pasta while she is young. Write down your pasta recipes and compile them into a family cookbook. This is a nice tradition that can be passed on to the next generations.

tankards

November 4th, 2008

Drinking beer with friends is merrier when taken in large doses. Instead of using plain glasses, pour draft beer in tankards that won’t easily break despite the rowdy toasts. Have several tankards in store in readiness for impromptu parties with your drinking buddies.

You can even give tankards as gifts for friends’ birthdays or during other special occasions. He will surely appreciate you for it.

stainless steel colander

October 29th, 2008

When in a hurry, the fastest meals to prepare are salads and pastas. You can prepare the salad dressing ahead of time or, for a quick one, just mix in balsamic vinegar and olive oil then add salt and pepper to taste. For pasta dishes, there are so many ready-made sauces available in the market.

You will find a stainless steel colander quite useful in washing the greens for the salad or in draining the noodles for the pasta dish. A colander looks like a bowl but comes with holes on its side to drain liquids.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it supplies us with all the energy we need to jumpstart our day. They say that people who do not take anything in the morning usually have a slower metabolism. These are the people who tend to overeat during lunch or dinner and these are also the people who end up having a hard time burning those unwanted calories.

For those who reason that they just don’t have time to prepare breakfast, a simple meal of toast and eggs would suffice. Toast is so easy to prepare with a kitchen aid toaster. Pop it in while you cook the eggs or brew the coffee. Your body will thank you for it.
