sewing needle

Sharp, pointed objects are usually used to cut a whole thing into pieces. A sewing needle is a small, slender object that has a sharp tip on one end and a hole on the other for the thread. Unlike other pointed objects, a sewing needle brings pieces together with the help of a thread. Sewing needles have different sizes from 1-10. Size 1 is thicker and longer while size 10 is shorter and finer.

Sewing is fun especially when you know what materials to use. The fabric structure will determine the type of sewing needle to use. Regular sharp point needle for all woven fabrics is needed. Knitted and elastic fabrics could be sewed using a ball point needle. Lastly, the wedge point needle is specifically designed for vinyl and leather.

discount sewing supplies

My grandmother lived with us for a few years when I was a child. I remember she would spend many afternoons sewing clothes for us. She sewed mittens for my baby sister and shorts for my little brother. She once asked me to accompany her to the mall to buy discount sewing supplies. I did not know what they were. When we got to the store, she bought needles, threads and fabrics. She was going to sew a pillow case for us.

My grandmother is no longer with us today. I miss her terribly and I sometimes wish I were a child again. She taught me so much about life. I miss going to the store to buy discount sewing supplies, those were bonding times for us. I have not learned how to sew. I did not inherit any of her talent or skills. I have talents of my own which I am sure she would be proud of if she could only see me now.

Cross-stitch or cross-stitching is a type of embroidery that was quite popular as early as 16th century. Though it’s an ancient needlework, cross-stitch retained its appeal to women and recently to some men. In the early 1990s, cross-stitching re-emerged as a popular hobby especially for women. With a simple pattern, a cross-stitch needle, aida cloth, embroidery hoop, and embroidery thread, not any ordinary sewing thread, anyone can create a sampler.

These days, cross stitch pattern are no longer dominated by traditional designs as new breed of cross stitch designers and computerized pattern makers came out. Among the most common used patterns are Precious Moments, cartoon characters like Winnie the Pooh, Mickey Mouse, and religious images such as The Last Supper and the Hummel Angels. With the creation of computer programs or software application for cross-stitch pattern-making, photographs of people, landscapes, famous artworks and paintings became popular as well.
