While there are many lighting options that you can bring to the campsite, headlamps will be one of the first things to consider. They have the advantage of being small and lightweight. They are perfect for any kind of nighttime tasks especially those that will require the use of both hands. You can wear a headlamp while checking out your surroundings, while cooking or even for reading. Definitely, they have an advantage over other lighting tools such as flashlights or battery powered lanterns. However, it doesn’t mean that you should only bring a headlamp on your camping trip.
There is no need for a sophisticated headlamp. A basic headlamp should suffice. But more thought should be put in choosing the bulb to put in the headlamp. Headlamps come primarily with either LED bulbs or xenon or halogen bulbs. Each has its benefits and drawbacks. LED headlamps have bulbs are long lasting and use little battery power. LED bulbs are also very bright and light up the general area within a few feet. However, they lack distance and do not shine a straight beam well. They may also diffuse certain colors as many LED bulbs often have a blue tint.
