Aspiring musicians should be taught the proper care of their instruments. It is their responsibility to care for and clean these instruments. A student trombone is a precise instrument. A clean trombone can be a joy to play, but a dirty instrument will become difficult to play. Students are not as passionate in taking care of their instruments as professional, but making them understand the consequences of carelessness will entice them to improve their attitude.

The first thing a student should know about the trombone is how to care for it. Let’s assume that it is clean when you bought it because you would not have bought it if it were dirty. Let us assume that you have checked for dents on the slide. Disengage the slides, and determine if it needs lubrication. Be careful with the parts. Be gentle with your instrument and it will serve you for a long time. If you are not confident that you will do a good cleaning job, look for an expert.
