Buying your first guitar can be very exciting. Make sure you do your homework first though before hitting the stores. Determine if you need an acoustic or electric guitar which should be based on the type of music you want to learn. If you like rock music, an electric guitar is recommended. But if you prefer classical or folk music, an acoustic guitar would be a better choice.

There are many cheap guitars in the market for beginners. If you’re buying a brand new one, you’ll be covered by a warranty that can be very reassuring but it is more expensive. If you choose to buy a used guitar, inspect the instrument closely for any damages and, if possible, bring along an expert guitar player to test the instrument.
