It got its name because it uses only acoustics to project its sound. It relies on its hollow body to produce some kind of magnification. No amplifiers, just a soundboard and a sound box. Acoustic guitars are popular because they are easy to carry around and are definitely less expensive. Acoustic guitars appeal to the teenager you loves to jam with his friends wherever they find themselves.

As far as the quality of the sound it would seem that electric guitars produce a much better sound but that is only because it takes advantage of modern electronics. The truth is that music produced by the acoustic guitar is pure and untouched. It comes from the natural vibrations produced by the strings. A person who can play good music from the acoustic guitar is the more skillful one.
