New Orleans is said to be the birthplace of jazz and the blues. Resonator guitars are commonly seen being used by musicians there. This instrument is an innovation of the acoustic guitar with few metal cones. These cones in the front board amplify the sound to create the distinct sound that made the blues very popular. A resonator guitar is best played on one’s lap with the use of the slider.
There are two types of resonator guitars:
~The square neck guitar is played like any other acoustic guitar.
~The round neck guitar is played on the lap which is more difficult to do.
Resonator guitars are played normally with a metal slider that you press on the fret boards. Here, the chords and finger placements are quite different from what’s usual in traditional guitar playing.
