acoustic electric guitars

My teenage sons are talking about wanting to become a rock stars. I find it funny and ironic since I wanted to be a singer when I was their age. I didn’t think they were serious until they asked me for a pair of acoustic electric guitars. I had no idea what they were talking about. I thought that a guitar was either acoustic or electric not both.

Acoustic electric guitars are acoustic guitars that come with an electric plug. An electric acoustic guitar is an acoustic guitar which has pickups and a microphone. Musicians who start by playing acoustic guitars can practice on this before moving on to an electric guitar. When teenagers ask for an acoustic electric guitar, my guess is they want to jam and blast their eardrums. As long as they play in the garage and keep the doors closed, I don’t think they’ll bother anyone.
