Various cultures from around the world describe dragon legends differently. In eastern Europe, dragons are attributed to demons and evil spirits that hunt fair maidens. In other parts of the world, dragons are seen as a source of knowledge and wisdom. It is for these reasons that king0s and queens send out expeditions to capture such beasts and harness their power. It has been said that the power coming from dragons helped kings conquer other kingdoms, and to expand their vast empires.
In the ancient Chinese culture, however, dragon mythology involves good fortune and prosperity. Many believed that dragons are gentle creatures that roamed the bamboo forests of China. Old folks and farmers would even offer them cattle as sacrifices if a member of the family is ill. The dragons would take the cattle, and in return, heal the sick as well as bless the household with good luck.
