picnic baskets

I remember a basket that I had specially filled with plastic plates, cups, glasses spoons, forks and knives. I remember that the plates and glasses were of different colors and each color was assigned to a child. Even on picnics, they needed to practice personal sanitation and hygiene. Sometimes there will be a misunderstanding and a fight will ensue about which color glass belonged to whom. The problem was usually resolved with cooler heads intervening and the aggrieved child being promised a candy bar for dessert.

This special basket for utensils came side by side with picnic baskets filled with food and drinks. Fried chicken, pork barbecue and spaghetti were staples. The smaller kids never got tired of hotdog. It is amazing how kids could eat so much. It must be true that they use up the calories they take in to power their incessant clowning around, joking and chitchat.
