Hurdling is a variation of the track and field sports. There are sprint hurdle races and long hurdle races. All these races are run over ten hurdles and are Olympic events. The standard sprint hurdle race is 110 meters for men and 100 meter for women. While the standard long hurdle race is 400 meters for both men and women.
Sometimes, other distances are run when the sports is done indoors. There are two basic hurdle heights. The sprint hurdle races use high hurdles that measure from 33 to 42 inches. Long hurdle races use intermediate hurdles measuring 30 to 33 inches high. Slightly lower heights are sometimes used in youth or high school competitions.
