unity candle holder

When engaged couples plan their weddings, they usually want to make the ceremony as personal as possible. They want significant touches that will show their commitment to each other. Some couples write their own vows, others give suggestions on what the minister or judge should say. Some couples on the other hand prefer a traditional wedding with all the trimmings. A gesture that is neither that modern nor traditional is the lighting of the unity candle. A big long candle is placed on top of a unity candle holder near the altar and lit by both the bride and the groom.
A unity candle is used to symbolize the couple’s coming together as one. As they jointly light the candle, they commit to a new life and light together. A unity candle is somewhat similar to an Easter candle except that it is not as huge. It is placed in a unity candle holder which may be the same one used to hold an Easter candle. It is a romantic and intimate gesture done in front of the altar an in front of their guests.
