A wedding couple shows their appreciation to members of their entourage and guests by giving them gift tokens. These are wedding favors that may vary from inexpensive unique novelties to expensive items depending on the taste and budget of the newlyweds. The choice of wedding favors has become an integral part of the wedding preparations. The bride, with the help of her close friends and relatives will spend days and weeks before they decide on the gift. The present will usually tie up with the theme of the wedding.
These days, just about anything can be considered as an appropriate wedding favor. Popular choices are scented soaps in unique shapes, glass coasters or cute figurines. In earlier times, however, there were specific wedding favors that newlyweds from different cultures offered their guests, In Greece, for example, Bom Bom Yara, candy coated almonds, are served to the guests as wedding favors. The Dutch give out “Bridal Sugar”, a party favor made of five pieces of sweet candy wrapped in tulle. The number five represents five wishes of love, happiness, loyalty, prosperity, and virility.
